Just moments ago iPhone Dev Team released the redsn0w 0.9 public beta download for Windows and Mac, supporting the latest iPhone OS 3.1.2 the cross-platform jailbreaking and unlocking utility for iPhone and iPod Touch also supports customizations like changing of device boot logo, recovery logo, and allows users to switch on “verbose” booting mode.

The free standalone utility does not use iTunes and no custom IPSW's are involved in the process, the current beta supports all iPhones and iPod touches except the iPod touch 3G having Apple firmware 3.0 and 3.1.2, direct download links are at the end of this post.

redsn0w 0.9 Customization options

Keep in mind that redsn0w does not require a phone firmware restore like PwnageTool as it works by modifying the existing file-system on your iDevice, so your existing baseband, data and applications should remain intact.

A minor-update to Apple iPhone Software 3.1 is now available for download, the new iPhone OS 3.1.2 is a bug-fix release addressing flaws from previous version - the new OS update fixes Wake-Up from Sleep, Streaming Video Crash, Lost Network Acces and other annoyances from 3.1 release.

If you have a jailbroken device the iPhone Dev Team has advised not to upgrade as PwnageTool and redsn0w are not yet compatible with 3.1.2 and there is no estimated release time for compatible tools, however, Chronic Dev advised its safe to upgrade as 3.1.2 is just an RR update fixing some bugs and nothing is different at all in iBoot or any other firmware files, adding greenpois0n exploit works just fine with the latest update.
